The Opportunity
Join a dynamic and growing media and entertainment group with operations spanning Australia and the US. We are looking for a tech-savvy, forward-thinking Accountant to own the engine room of our finance function.
This is not a traditional compliance-only role; it is a finance transformation journey. You will work directly with our strategic Commercial Finance Manager / CFO to build a foundation for hyper-efficiency. We value curiosity, technical aptitude, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Your Journey: Two Key Phases
Phase 1: Mastery & Mapping (Months 4)
To improve a system, you must first master it. You will initially be hands-on with our full-function accounting operations to deeply understand our data flow.
- Master the Fundamentals: Take ownership of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processing.
- Systems Audit: Map all existing automations currently running across Xero, NetSuite, Make.com, Pipedrive, HubSpot, and Monday.com.
- Identify Gaps: Use your "hands-on" period to identify bottlenecks and manual tasks that are ripe for automation or outsourcing.
Phase 2: Scale & Innovation (Months 4+)
Once you have mastered the workflows, you will lead the transition to a more strategic, supervisory role.
- Outsourcing Lead: Build and implement the workflows to outsource high-volume data entry.
- Quality Control: Shift to a review-based role, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of work produced by outsourced partners.
- Process Optimization: Deep-dive into Make.com and Notion to refine existing automations and create new ones that eliminate manual intervention.
- Data Insights: Develop dynamic dashboards and provide high-level commercial support to the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting Excellence: Manage month-end close, management reporting, and review statutory compliance (GST, Income Tax).
- Systems Champion: Lead the optimization of our ERP (NetSuite/Xero) and ensure seamless integration with our tech stack.
- Automation Management: Maintain and improve complex workflows in Make.com, ensuring data syncs correctly between Pipedrive, Monday.com, and our finance systems.
- Commercial Support: Assist the CFO with financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc strategic projects.
- Change Management: Document new workflows and mentor the wider team on adopting new systems and processes.
What You Bring (The Ideal Profile)
- Qualification: Newly Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) or CPA (Essential).
- Experience: Approximately 3 years of experience in a high-performance Audit or Commercial environment.
- Technical Curiosity: A genuine desire to "look under the hood" of systems. Experience with Make.com, Notion, or similar middleware is a massive advantage.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Xero and/or NetSuite. Familiarity with Pipedrive or Monday.com is highly regarded.
- Mindset: You are someone who gets frustrated by manual data entry and immediately looks for a way to automate it.
- Communication: Ability to explain complex technical or financial processes to non-financial stakeholders.
Why Join Us?
- Strategic Mentorship: Receive direct mentorship in a role that bridges finance and technology.
- Career Progression: A clear path from operational accounting to FP&A/Finance Manager.
- Vibrant Culture: Based in the heart of Surry Hills’ creative hub.
- Flexibility: Modern hybrid working model (Tue/Wed/Thu in office).
